Karen Chan has been with the Asian Film Archive (AFA) since 2006 and is currently its Executive Director. Under her leadership, Singapore’s first film collection was successfully inscribed into the UNESCO Memory of the World Asia-Pacific Register. She presents regularly at various conferences, most recently at the EYE International Conference 2018 in Amsterdam. She teaches film preservation, film literacy, and Singapore cinema history to students, educators, and the public. She contributes to archiving and library related publications and has jointly written a chapter for the book Singapore Cinema on “Independent digital filmmaking in Singapore”. Her past experiences include teaching English and History, working with the National Arts Council, National Archives of Singapore, and the Natural History Museum in New York City.
