2018 – James Newman – Biography

James Newman is Professor of Digital Media at Bath Spa University. Over the past 20 years, he has written widely on aspects of videogames, players and fans, and media histories and spoken across the world at academic and popular media events. Since 2015, he has been a curator and researcher at the UK’s National Videogame Arcade where he has worked on exhibition design and the creation of new models of interpretation for digital games. James’ books include Videogames, Playing with Videogames and Best Before: videogames, supersession and obsolescence (Routledge), 100 Videogames and Teaching Videogames (BFI Publishing). In 2018, he co-authored A History of Videogames in 14 Consoles, 5 Computers, 2 Arcade Machines… and an Ocarina of Time (Carlton Books) which the first book based on the collections at the NVA.
